RCD Install

Started installing my RCD lift yesterday. I got the majority of stuff disassembled yesterday. First time messing with torsion bars. The first one took me about an hour to get off and then about 5 minutes for the second one. lol

Got the old shocks and swaybar links off. Gotta finish disassembling the brakes tonight. I'm gonna need to get some new rotors and everything, I had the 12" rotors and they were due anyway. That's about as far as I got in 3 hrs. I've been taking a ton of pics so I can remember where stuff goes and what not. I'll post em up when I get back to the house.

Any advice would be appreciated. This is my first time tackling a job this size and I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions. Stay tuned!! :spam:

Still stock, t-bars cranked.

Still got tons to do. I need to get a couple tools to keep this moving, along with brakes, and I'll probably do the ball joints while I got it all apart.

Gearhead61 10-06-2008 09:29 AM

just pay attention! That's most important. And make sure you weld in the gussets!

seed60 10-06-2008 09:36 AM

I been doing my best. lol

I'm gonna get everything installed and then get it up here to work so I can have one of our welders fix it up.

I saw were "Ranger" is running his without the gussets. So I figure a slow, easy 20 mile ride to the shop to get them welded in wouldn't hurt???

ranger 10-06-2008 11:10 AM

hell i ran with our the gussets for over a year. I have them in now. But yea a "slow" 20 miles you will be fine.

Thanks for the reassurance :biggthump

How long did your 600 lb coils last?

jaycheetwood 10-06-2008 11:26 AM

I hear they sag after 6 - 12 months.. get fox coils with a 750 - 800 lb spring rate.. ebay =] 250 or something each..

I've heard even less then that if you beat on it. Just kinda wondering how long his lasted, I think he's on 800's now.

I plan on going that exact route once these wear out. :439:

jaycheetwood 10-06-2008 11:39 AM

Yeah that could work too.. what did you pay for your kit?

I wanna just get the drop brackets from SUPERLIFT and the coil over conversion pieces from RCD.

ranger_1999 10-06-2008 11:41 AM

Man its gonna be awsome, I gotta see that thing when your done..Will you be done this weekend?? Maybe we could meet up er something

How much is that versus the whole RCD kit?

jaycheetwood 10-06-2008 11:44 AM

Well i hear the RCD conversion is 700 - 1000 for the parts and new FOX shocks idk how much the superlift drop brakcets are yet..

cause well i really dont need the rear end peices cause they dont lift my FX4 much more than it is i dont think.. plus i want my front taller than my rear.

ranger_1999 10-06-2008 11:48 AM

Keep us updated on how much they are

jaycheetwood 10-06-2008 11:49 AM

Yeah i have been meaning to call Superlift about that.. Ill try to find out today.. Cause well i dont wanna pay that much for the whole RCD kit to pay for shocks that dont last..

You better believe it's gonna be awesome. The kit looks so damn good in the boxes I can't wait til I get it all on my truck.

I wish I could finish it that quick. I'm gonna take it slow so hopefully I won't mess up anything. I'm also still waiting on my leaf springs and I need to order brakes.

I can't drive for a little while, so I'll have to take a rain check. That's kinda why I deciding to do the install myself. I've got PLENTY of time.

jaycheetwood 10-06-2008 11:54 AM

2200 doesnt seem too bad i suppose.

They had a sale on Rocky Mountain Suspensions that ended Sept. 30th. It was right around $2000 before shipping and stuff. That was the cheapest I could find.

the stock 600's will show bad sag by the time you hit 10k...just so you know....600's are like having B torsion bars....

I vote 750lb coils. Only like $150 max for the pair. not $250 each as previously stated in this thread.

I was saying 250 for fox shocks with a 750 - 800... not just the springs.

what? please explain how the rear end pieces won't fit your fx4....

seed60 10-06-2008 12:58 PM

I thought about trying to sell them on ebay or something. So that I could recoup some money and put it towards heavier springs. But I still haven't made up my mind.

U-bolts?

99ranger4x4 10-06-2008 01:01 PM

your not going to get Fox shocks WITH springs for 250 each. not going to happen unless you get them used

i paid, $450 shipped off ebay for my Fox's, Poly Performance is $230 each plus shipping

750lb Springs were good, they were a little stiff at first but i got em broke in and sagging in 6 months lol, i got them for 160 shipped?

seed60 10-06-2008 01:17 PM

Could I just buy the heavier springs and install them on the bilstein-rcd shock or is the whole assembly rated at 600 lbs and would need a whole new coilover to replace?

yea...rear ubolts sure...but that's it. all else will work for his 31spline axle. RCD: AAL + Shackle. SL: block. I typed before i thought about it. oops. lol.

You just need new springs. Mine wore out fast about 5k-8k miles on them. The 800s are rough but have not sagged at all and have loosened up quite a bit since i took the sway bar off. The ride is still rough, but i bought a truck and lifted it, so it was comin'

ranger_1999 10-06-2008 01:35 PM

So your saying even though you spend $2000+ on a lift, you still need t buy heavier hypercoils...damn that sucks
