Screw the lift kits, SAS is needed
#27
If you can't do he SAS yourself then you shouldn't do it. Odds are something will break and you will need to fix it.
The RCD kit is great. 5.5 inches and clearance for 33's ain't bad at all. if you need more add a body lift and you are on 35's no problem.
Not to mention you will be devalueing your vehicle to junk status by going to a solid axle with leafs. A suspension lift won't be recouped, but it shouldn't hurt the resale value.
You may plan not to sell your truck, but in the next few years you will really start to consider it.

because it used to be listed by RCD as a 5.5" lift. It has since been changed to a 5"

Your truck is an 04, your 18, pay it off before you chop it up mate. If it is paid off, take a welding class at a local Bocees or trade shop for a few bux. They can teach you the basics. Once you have the basics down, and a little practice, you should be able to handle the work on your own.
I learned to weld in a short time, I'm an idiot, I'm sure you will fair much better

That's good advice right there...
Pay off the truck before you are going to butcher it, because if you fubar it and end up with a truck on stilts for a few months not knowing how to go any further, your out of a vehicle.. but you still gotta pay it off.
Best bet before you go with an SAS - pay the truck off, and buy a DD.. then put your truck up on stilts and give it the once over after you have enough knowledge to do it all yourself :-)

i do owe on the truck still but its not my daily driver
the main reason i wanted a D30 other than cost, i wanted to keep the bolt pattern. but i can always upgrade the rear to a D60 later on
its not that i need more lift, the rcd or superlift would be fine with a 3" BL
its that i dont want to do a BL and i dont care for IFS

If leaf springs were so great they would still be using them on the front of trucks, but they are not.
Why do rigs go from leaf springs to coils or coil overs? shoot we will never know since leaf springs are so much better. lol
any rate, im not interested in doing a leaf spring setup. I am doing another coil setup this summer though.

ok so how much would it cost to have you do a coil set up?, turn around time?
again, the only reason i planned to do it with my plan was to keep cost down but after reading about 15 sas threads, coils seem to cost about what i figured a leaf setup would
so if you can do a coil sprung sas for it let me know and i will get the money and axle around and anything else i have to get

If Zach does it, more power to you doing an SAS. Its ****tons of money for it and it will kill your value for the truck. im 18 i did it, i had tons of work left in it, a drunk driver hit it while it was parked in fonrt of my garage and totalled it. it may sound bad but it was a good thing in my eyes. i have a 04 F150 now and i love it so much.
Lift kits are where its at for someone that isnt experienced i can tell you this from first hand knowledge dude.
just listen to me on that one.
