shock question for lifted 2wd
shock question for lifted 2wd
i have a 2000 2wd ext cab that i want to put a 4in spindle and 3in coil spacer on. I know it will most likely ride like crap and posibly be cambered out but im looking for height not ride. for the best possible ride with that much lift what shock should i use. ive done a little reseach and cant find anybody else doing what i want to. thanks
Shocks dampen springs, while they will effect ride the main thing that effects ride is the spring and amount of sprung weight.
Lift doesn't matter to a point
The springs need to be matched to the weight they support, you want easily defected springs with weight of vehicle on them, easy to bounce, shocks removed
And springs will get stiffer and stiffer the more that compress.
Rear leafs on pick ups are often over sprung, just cheaper to make them that way to get the 1/2 ton rating, so softer spring with an overload spring is a good option, overload spring doesn't come into contact with the frame until load in bed exceeds 500lbs, so softer ride empty but still good load capacity, also better handling
If you use springs for a heavier vehicle then ride will suck big time, lol, you will need to add more weight, and it has nothing to do with the length of the spring, its weight rating is what is important
So you want shocks that are the same, shocks that let the correct springs move easily on smaller bumps, then stiffen up as they compress more and more.
This doesn't effect off-roading, you still have the same travel and recovery, but you retain the better ride on and off road.
So you need shocks for your vehicles weight and your needs
And remember tires are the first suspension part, running too high a pressure will make for a poor ride, your truck your tires run your pressure not manufacturers pressure
