Guys, I need new shocks. The Bilstein HD's i have in there right now are way too short, and are ripping up my bushings. I was looking at the 5100's, but the lengths don't match up. The shocks I have right now sit at 16" neutral. I need about 3-4" of both up and down travel, so 12" collapsed and 20" extended, although the Bilstein specs don't match up with that.

take a look at the 12" ones, you could always redo the shock mounts to accept them

 

heres shock lengths from FOA

hock lengths eye to eye-

collapsed extended
6in. 14.25" 20.25"

8in. 16.25" 24.25"

6" are 125$ea.
8" are 130$ea.

for a 2.5 shock....

 

alright well now i'm a bit confused. does it NEED to sit at 16" neutral... or can it sit higher than that neutral? cause if so i'd get the 8 inch

 

no, you just need to make sure your suspension doesnt travel more than the shock does

im not sure what. '16" neutral' means. i guess its the middle of the travel of the shock.

but the biggest thing is don't let the shock become the bump stop or limit strap.

 

sorry man, what i mean by 16" neutral is that's how long the shock is when it's in the middle of the travel, so you're right

yeah, my shock right now is acting like a limit strap. everytime i go over a bump CLUNK.
so bad.

there's gotta be other places but thats where i spend most of my time, hell give bilstein a call and tell them what you need, maybe they have just the shock and can give you a part number to bring to a distributor

okay, called the bilstein rep and told him i needed a 5100 with 8" travel
he said either the BE5-6526-H5, or the BE5-6528-H5. However, when i search those part numbers online, it says they could fit either an F-150 or a '83-97 4WD Ranger with a 6" suspension lift.
I have only a 3" suspension lift, so I searched some more and I found the BE5-6215-H5, which is for 4-5".. sounds better. what do you think?

Is your suspension lifted at all? I read in your profile that you have a body lift and spindle lift which means that you are still running the stock suspension specs. If this is true you need a shock that fits a stock setup.
