Swapping out bars.

Hey guys, I just picked up a set of #1 bars out of an 05 ranger with 20k on em, and I'm getting ready to swap them in. I had a question, are the little "torsion key skid plates" holding any weight? I havent seen any other type of truck with a plate over the torsion keys. I'm guessing I have to take off the plates to get the adjuster bolts, but I don't want to unbolt them and have the old bars unload in my face. anyone know?

The plates are just to protect the bolt and keys inside... So no there is no load on the plate. Also you can get to the bolt without taking the plate off... But in order to take the bars out you need to take the bolt out completely. I found it easier to take the bolt out and unbolt the torsion bar bracket from the frame and pull the bar out that way... maybe there is an easier way, but that worked for me just fine.
