Squeeky parts

Hey all, Lately my truck has been squeeking (more of a low squeek tone) when i am turning really sharp and pulling into a parking lot etc. I cant seem to figure out what is doing it. Could it be shocks? Also, it is not my tires rubbing.

Welcome to life in a pickup truck! I'll never forget the sound of my old neigbors rusted out chevy full-size. The shocks were gone and all you could here was the suspension joints squeaking away. Evern wrinkle in his (gravel!) driveway resulted in a nother unique squeak..

That said, if you yank the steering wheel all the way to the lock it will make a noise. It's the power steering trying to force the steering past it's stop. There is a warning somewhere (the user manual?!) that HIGHLY advocates against holding the wheel in that position. If you are just cutting the wheel for a sec to park that's okay, but don't just hold the weel there while you just sit there..

Thank you! Thats what I tell everybody that gripes about thier TRUCK squeeking. If you didnt want a squeek here and there or a bumpy ride you should have bought a Camry! (I dont endorse camrys or toyota just first car in my mind)

It actually the presure reliefe valve in the power steering pump opening up and bypassing. At full lock the pump produces near 1400psi of presure and it has to go somewhere (taking classes to get my ASE cert in Steering systems, not being an *** )

hey guys, if you've had your truck off-road, (gravels, unpaved roads, anywhere where there are gravels, or mud, or dirt clumps) then it is very possible that you have some debris lodged behind the backing plate on your front rotors. It sounds just as you all described. Mine was so bad that when it first started i thought my wheel bearings were going out.

I suggest pulling the affected wheel off and checking behind the backing plate real well. Sometimes just pulling the wheel will help and you'll be able to see if there is anything back there.

So is it untrue that you can damage the pump by holding the wheel at the full lock?

Not entirely untrue, but very unlikely. There is a presure relief valve built into the system to prevent damage from such ocurances due to the high pressure. The presure in the steering system is variable, ranging anywhere from ~200psi to 1400psi. The only time it sees the high pressure is at full lock, when you would need the most assist. So basicly no, it wont damage anything by holding the wheel at full lock as the system is designed to work at those pressures.

My truck squeaks so much it sounds like a herd of mice screwing.....

But I'm missing the clip to the corner bolt in the bed, so the bolt is just jiggling around......That and my brakes are shot.....AGAIN.....the life of an autocrosser......
