Torsion bar key lift
Torsion bar key lift
I am wanting to lift my 01 ranger 4x4 just in the front to level it out. I have found torsion bar keys on ebay and other sources for pretty cheap (around $50 on ebay). I was courious if this was a good option? I called schwabs and they said the wont lift my IFS front end due to insurance purposes. Do these fail often or make things break? I have searched this forum and havent found the answer I have been looking for so sorry if this is a repeat. Thanks for your time!!!
You need to search again. There have been soooo many treads were I have explained why this is a horrible idea. I will explain again just for you...
By cranking your torsion keys you are basically forcing the control arms down to increase the angles on the front end to lift the truck. Obviously this cause parts to wear faster due to excessive angles... When you use the eBay lift keys you are doi g the exact same thing as with the stock keys.
The difference is the eBay keys allow you to over crank the frontend because the angle on the keys have been reindexed compared to the factory keys. So the torsion bar adjusting bolts willstill be in the factory adjustment but the truck will sit higher. This allows you to keep cranking and get even more height...
So basically what I am saying is don't install these keys unless you really love to replace the front end components on a regular basis

You could always get a camber kit to fix this problem. its pretty much a bolt with a cam lobe on the head... if you look at your front end it is already set up to use these kinds of bolts. they dont cost that much you can install yourself then take it and get it aligned
yeah ^ what he said the cam bolts just help you align the tires after you lift the truck. the biggest problem with the keys is that they through your CV joint angles out of whack which makes them wear a lot faster than they should.
My question about the lift keys is that when you crank your stock keys you give up down travel, so what if you were to get the lift keys and set the as low as you can so it sets about like cranked stock T-bars would this give you more down travel which = better ride and performance? just food for thought

I 100% agree with ranger4.0, although I do have a set of aftermarket keys...
If you are looking to just level out the front of your truck just crank your stock keys, and I'd recoment an allignment! My truck, with the aftermarket keys cranked all the way down is half of an inch higher in the front. Also on some models/years of the latest generation ranger you need to get longer shocks (I have a set of superlift shocks)... I plan on cranking mine to get another inch or 2 and adding blocks on the rear thats the main reason ive used them...
Sometimes we have to sacrifice parts for what we want! even a set of bigger tires adds more stress to the front end. So what ever we do there are consequences, the trucks were built stock for a reason!!!
