I have a 1999 Ford Ranger 4x2 given to me by my uncle. Well I'm working for it just doing odds and ends stuff for him to pay it off so not given but close enough.
I notice once I got it home that both front tires are leaning in at the top I think it's called negative camber and I'm wondering if this is normal. I'm a bit worried because I just installed some all terrain tires on it and I don't want them to wear weird.
It was pulling to the right quite a bit and the steering wheel was turned to the right quite a bit too so I did the manual alignment using a string to set the toe correctly. After I did that I also took a measuring tape to the front and back of the tires and set the front of the tires about 1/8" inch further in than the back for a slight toe in. I was not exactly sure how much toe in is required for this truck but I watched a guy on youtube use 1/8" difference so I went with that but I can change that at any point.
That doesn't explain the camber. I took the front tires off and I see nothing at all to adjust the camber so I'm assuming this is factory setting.
The tires are not the exact same as the factory tires but very close. The door panel says 225/70x15 and I installed 215/75/15 which is almost the same size close enough shouldn't throw anything off.
You can tell from the photo here the driverside is leaning in at the top and the passenger is leaning just as much as this one is. It's pretty noticeable.

Get a wheel alignment at your local shop. There only so much you can do with string and tape measure.
That doesn't contribute anything at all to the conversation and doesn't answer the original question. I mentioned there are no camber adjustments so that means even a tire shop can't fix this. I'm not sure how much clear I could have put it. Not to mention I redid the alignment again with a string and it's absolutely perfect now and the steering wheel is straight. I've seen many shade tree mechanics do better alignments then these so called professional shops using just strings, measuring tapes and levels.
No it did not. Telling me to get an alignment at a shop doesn't answer a single thing I asked at all in this thread. I asked if the camber on my truck is normal. It's a pretty simple question. Telling me to go to a shop for an alignment is not a answer and contributes nothing to this conversation. Trying to defend this reply is crazy.

I will pull the tire off again and take a look but when I looked I didn't notice any of that. The one video I found online for adjusting camber on a ranger showed a round adjustable nut that was center of the control arm or something. you had to take one bolt loose turn the nut and then tighten it I'm assuming it was for the 4x4 models. I've yet to find a video showing how to adjust it on any 2 wheel drive. Every one that is on youtube shows people installing a camber kit to allow the upper control arm to be adjusted. If you say there is something there from the factory I would appreciate it if you actually show a photo of what you are talking about or possibly a video showing it.
That is how everyone on youtube is adjusting their camber since these trucks don't have a camber kit installed by default. It does have slack when I loosen the upper control arm I was able to slide it forward in the front a little to add positive camber to the driver side which helped straight it up some. Not sure if I messed up by doing that. Will drive it after all this rain clears tomorrow and test it. I was not able to break loose the upper control arm on the passenger side the suckers are so tight I broke a ratchet trying to break it loose. I'll have to find someone who has a breaker bar to do the other side they are super tight. The ones on the driverside was not that tight so it's been messed with before.
