ouch, not that great, not to mention bad acceleration. I'd recommend a 4.10 at the least or a 4.56 will be optimal

actually 3.73s are stronger then 4.10's, You should be alright, you might be a little slower on take off but you'll be fine.

WTF!? 4.56 for a 4.0 with 33's?

You shouldn't think of 4.56 unless you go up to 35's. With 3.73's you'll be fine with 33's gas mileage wise.

And there is a negligable difference in "strength" b/t 4.10's and 3.73's, Your not going to break a ring or pinion with 33's........

I've seen spider gears go in a 7.5" with 3.73s. Don't know about an 8.8" though. Odds are you'd be alright.

I don't consider a 7.5 worth discussing about. With an 8.8, you'll be fine.

so you guys think i should be good?? I would like to swap out for 4.10's but dont have the extra oney at the time....im not really planning on doing much wheeling with the 33's and 3.73's so what could i expect to be an average mileage?? would it be better if i went with a 33x10.50??? what about 32x11.50????

ive got a '99 xlt supercab....im gonna order a 3 in PA body lift if i decide to go that route.....my worries arent about clearance, i should be covered there....i was just concerned about the power and gas mileage issues of running the said tires with 3.73 gears and a 4.0.....but i'll most likely wind up putting 31x10.50s on it. I want to set my truck up so that it will look good and also be somewaht good offroad. im not trying to just make a boggin truck, its gotta be a daily driver too.

I don't understand why people lift their truck and put big tires on it, only to ask about gas mileage. If your that concerned about gas mileage get a honda!

It's going to be less mileage. Probably 2-3 mpg less.

I didnt lose much power or mileage going to 33s. I lost more power with a free-flowing exhaust. More backpressure anyways.

You will be ok with 3.73s, but i'd reccomend 4.10s. You won't have to gun it around as much.
