air intake muffler removal

Recently came across a site that said removing the baffle from the air intake could give me 10hp. I understand the logic behind this but still not sure if I want to do it. Anyone tried this?

i doubt that man, maybe 1-2 hp if that.. and there is i think a How to: section here on how to remove the silencer.. i think its called the Air Silencer mod.

edit: basically all it does is make it breath a little better and it sounds a little meaner... not to much but you can notice it. also that link doesnt work for me.

The 3.0L and 4.0L V-6s use the identical airbox and snorkel, and it isn't restrictive for them.....over designed for the 4 cylinder......you won't gain
a thing by removing it......

Nosie can be caused by air flow turbulence, which is not what you want.

I am trying to increase torque. Right now the truck pulls like a 90 year old emphysemic slug. I have actually considered installing sails. Not looking to race it but would like for it to be able to get out of its own way once in a while.

I notice from your profile you have over-sized tires on it. Going to the stock tire size, and going to a higher numerical ratio diff. will help.

The tires are 265/50r15s and are actually about 2-3 inches shorter than what is supposed to be on it 225/70r14. I am going to do a tune up (plugs/wires/air filter/oil etc.) and that should get some torque back but I would still like to free up any more that I can find. Would "opening" up the cat help or hurt? I don't know if it is plugged up and have heard that modding an unclogged cat can actually hurt performance.

A plugged cat will affect performance. If it is plugged, replace it, DO NOT gut it!! Not only is it against the law, it will cause you other problems, like throwing a CEL.

Wider tires have more rolling friction......265mm vs 225mm
