3.0 exhaust.

I have a 2000 ranger 3.0 with stock everything.. My problem is my cats have a leak in them, or so I was told by a local shop. My question is I was told I could weld a straight pipe in instead of the cats.. I know its not legeal, but what I am most concerend about is the sound. I dont want it sounding totally horrible.. Ive looked and looked for sound clips but they all have the muffler cut out and is straight piped from the cats back, mine will be straight all the way from the headers to the muffler.. Will it sound bad? I'm looking to do everything on the cheap, As I cant afford a new system, and blah blah. any help is appreiciated..

yea, fully dumped exhaust sounds like crap and is bad for vehicle and torque numbers. your vehicle is factory built to account for back pressure. either get second opinion on CAT or i got an entirely new exhaust system (manifold back) from my local pull and pay for 38 bucks

Never thought about a yard pull.. Thats an option as well.. I may roll with it like this for another month or so and save for a full system, just curious what do you guys think is the best bang for the buck in the aftermarket area? I like heartthrobe systems, they seem to be fairly priced as well.

second the magnaflow ^ if you level everything off (price, performance, sound etc) magnaflow is the way to go for a cat back system

you can get rid of one of the cats but if you get rid of all of them you would have a CEL on

If you gut the cats you'll get a CEL just so ya know in case you were thinking that. I know I did and have the CEL on all the time. Such a pain.

Can you get either a sound clip or a video of it? How bad did it throw off your motor sensors?
