dif. between 01 3.0 and 04 3.0
i was the owner of a 2001 edge 3.0 2wd with 3:73 gears. after totalling it a week ago today. https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...ad.php?t=27034 i am now challenged with the daunting task of finding another truck within my price range. while looking, i drove a 2004 ranger edge 3.0 2wd 5 speed. same as mine with the exception of this one being an extended cab. my question is whether or not there is any engine tweaks from 01 to 04. i can easily tell the 04 would pull a lot better than my 01 would. it felt even more peppy in 3rd. are these the same motors or are there some adjustments?

the hp did change minimally during those years... as far as the rear on the truck you are looking at there is a axle code on the vin sticker on the doorjamb that will tell you what you have... the code sheet can be found here

Some difference:
New calibrations.
The 2001 had the restrictive aluminum intake manifold and the later models have a plastic one that is smooth and almost "ported and polished" from the factory.
I have an '02 that was stock at one time, lol. I got 4.10 gears in it and it was worth it. I made a big difference.
The 3.0 is still the most long-lived engine of the two. If you don't need the power and you are going to keep the truck the 3.0 will probably last longer with less maintenance.

Ahh i see. Well i am certain that my 01 3.0 had an egr seeing as the egr valve had to be replaaced twice over the two years i had the truck. i would love to have a 4.0. only problem is finding one like i want. ford didn't make many 4.0's how i want mine to be. i want anywhere from a 99-04 4.0 ohv or sohc, 5spd 2wd. yeah, extended cab would be nice too. all about the money

mmm i still call bs on all them then... cuz from everysite i'e seen the 03s have 148 and 04s have 154... but honsotly **** it; the 3.0 blows ***** reguardless. and the fact of the matter remains that i would never buy another ranger unless it had the 4.0 in it, [Cleve]keep searching till you find one you can afford

yeah, that's more than likely what i'll do. the only part i dread is driving a 1986 f150 300ci 4speed with a flat bed to school everyday until then. seeing as i don't have a license at the moment. i'll get it back come thursday when i go to court. it's hard to find a 4.0 supercab 00+ for 9750 or less. oh well. we'll see. i guess i'll just have to see what i can find

I love my little 3.0 it does its job and still gets decent gas mileage(I use it to deliver pizza's)
Did you ever get a programmer for yours? If not it would be well worth it.
