how to tell gas tank size

Anyone know if there are markings anywhere on the tank to show what size it is?

I have a 2004 Edge 3.0, 2wd, ext cab. I think its supposed to be a 19.5 gal according to the owners manual, but this weekend the gas light came on, and I kept driving about another 30 miles. By this time the needle was just under the "E". I fill it up and it puts 16.1 gallons in.

I think some rangers came with a 16.5 gal tank.

x2.
it always has a gallon or so in reserve so you don't completely empty the truck of gas, since once your get air in the fuel lines, you have to purge them again to get gas back to the fuel rail.

I don't think anybody on here has put more than 16.5 gallons in their truck at once.

I have put 21 gallons in mine before. It says on the little door for the gas cap that it is a 20 gal tank. I ran it out of fuel once and had my buddy come up and give me some gas. poured it in and cranked it over a couple times and she fired right up. I usually put about 19 gallons in on average

well the main reason i asked is, I also have a 1996 2.3L XLT, ext cab 2wd. It also has a 19.5 gal tank but the gauge on it seems a lot more accurate. Once it gets down to E, you can easily put 18 gal in it or so.

Ya I used to see how many miles I could do on one tank and I would run the truck past the E mark for an hour or so and then go fill up and only put about 18 gallons in. Now my gauge seems to be more accurate and goes down faster but i am still gettting the same mileage. well a little lower because of my driving and winter
