4.0 ohv-4.0 sohc

I have a 91 4.0 ohv 5spd, will a 4.0 sohc fit in? Is the bell housing pattern the same?

Will it fit? Yeh but your going to have to change everything Engine, Wiring, ECU , Trans and also you would be going from obd1 to obd2 and would probally have to eliminate pats on the SOHC motor ECU

Thanks, I figured the cammer would ba a bit better, but I guess you cant beat the old stuff even 6 cyls. Besides I am new to this v6 stuff. This is why i have an F150 with a 302, a proven reliable motor.

it doesnt im pretty sure i could be wrong but i did the swap and couldnt be any more happier and the sohc has pretty decent torque, the ohv's tq is 225 at 2700 rpms, and the sohc is 235 at 3000. how much diff. is that? all i gotta say is 160 hp is bull! ohv is reliable but a BORING motor! https://www.ranger-forums.com/f33/4-...0l-sohc-93309/ although it might not work because of the obd 1 and obd 2 changes my dad made it work in his truck but it runs a lil rough sometimes.

Wrong, the OHV 4.0 is tough but it has very little that the SOHC 4.0 doesn't have. That very little is; 4 (or less) lb-ft more torque at rpms under 1500. That is less than 2% difference. Otherwise, the SOHC is superior in performance. Durability of the SOHC 4.0 seems to be good but the added complexity of the cam drive leave it suspect to failure before the OHV.
