What is the best muffler model?
Well I have come to the conclusion that if you want power you need either a Magnaflow or Borla. How much more performance do these mufflers give over Flowmaster?
What are the best models or size to get of each brand. I am assuming SI/DO is better?
Also keep in mind I at least want some type of a mean growl.
Thanks Jake

My flowmaster 40 lost me 10 lb/ft at the wheels from factory. It was loud and ' sounded cool '.. but I view it as like.. an 80's ' glam band ' with all the make-up and wild clothes..
SI/DO is NOT always better, nor are ' bigger ' pipes. What you want is a Torque increase, not so much ' horsepower ' as your moving a lot of weight ( 4x4 ).
The best increases you will see.. Hands down, Borla ( I believe its the Pro-XS? ) In a SI/SO setup ( check out Zach Beards setup. )
They aren't too expensive comparritive to a magnaflow or a gibson setup.
I presently have a magnaflo setup with custom 2inch pipes on the dual out side of it. With the new mill, it will unquestinably be a borla setup.
Borla says ' I have something ', not nessecarily a ' growl ' and not always ' deep ' like a v8. Its FAR from a fart can sound. Magnaflo at idle.. not much different from factory at all. Honestly.. they are very quiet. Hammer the gas, and it gets to a nice level of sound. Neither cause excessive cabin noise ( IMO ).

*IF* I was starting from the beginning , I would at this time go with a borla. Their gains are quite nice. It would be a single in, single out setup.

Thanks guys.
I have one more question. I know I am not going to go the Flowmaster route so that is done.
The current set up I have now is no muffler, just strait pipes from the cats back into duel exhaust.
Am I losing power with this set up? If I am I am going to go with the Borla Pro-XS with out a doubt.

I used to have a Borla Pro XS with a SI/SO splitting to duals. I had lots of people wonder how I got a V8 into a little Ranger! They were very suprised when I told them it was a 6 cyl. I also took it on several 600+ mile trips and never once thought it was too loud or drone-y. I'd get it again in a heartbeat if I had the cash.

That makes me want it even more.
