4.0 harmonic balancer and crank sensor woes.
I was trying to figure out one problem with my fuel pump on a 93 ranger I swapped a 97 block into. Reading I came across a few posts in a thread about the HB being different along with the CS I havent tried but it looked like the 93 CS would bolt up but the fella mentioned alot about the front covers but stated he was not sure if they would bolt up or be different in any way. I'm trying to figure out if anyone has info on any of these items and what the difference is and what I can do. I have both blocks and am trying to get this figured out as my daily broke down and trying to get into this project I have been on done. So is the cover different? Is the balancer different? If so can't I change either out with the old one? And BTW I have already installed this motor and have it all hooked up but I took the fan blade off and belt back off to deal with this after I read these posts
PS: I left a response in the thread I had mentioned. I think I might have come to a conclusion but I will check and make sure, atleast after I figure out why my fuel pump won't come on. started ripping the front of my motor apart thinking I had a problem. I left because my impact was out of battery and called Ford. The parts guy said the harmonic balancer and the front cover are the same and should not have any problem running them in my 93. I have a 97 4.0 block I'm putting in a 93 ranger.

Welcome to the forum
1990 thru 2000 4.0l OHV used the same crank sensor setup(VR sensor), not sure what you read, maybe it was about the 2.3l Ranger engines which were different
You will use 1997 harmonic balancer, not sure why you would take front cover off but put back on the 1997 front cover
And just a heads up, in 1997 the crank's rear bolt pattern changed for flywheel/flexplate to 8 bolts from 6, so you will need to use the 1997 flywheel/flexplate

Thank you.
Yea I had figured that out after I got a new clutch and new plate. I traded it in and got a small discount from the dealer for the bolts they are different too. The old sensor goes on the front cover I was still unsure of that and threw the old one on I'll keep the newer one but it looked different but plugged in.
I was just trying to figure out the pump not working and wound up reading that after a few problems in a row so went down a rabbit hole lol.

Fuel pump only runs for 2 seconds with key on, its a safety thing, so many think its not working because it doesn't stay on with key on
Fuel pump does get the 12volts each time key is turned from off to on, but only for the 2 seconds each time
It gets full time 12volts when engine RPMs are above 400, cranking speed is 200rpm
