Major Overdrive Malfunction

Major Overdrive Malfunction
I don't even know where to start on this one. My truck drives fine, it runs like a top, the only thing is when I want to really mash the skinny pedal, it does nothing. Like I said before, the truck drives perfectly fine in ALL gears. It shifts fine and everything, it's only when I get into overdrive that it malfunctions. What happens is, the truck sounds like it's in overdrive except the RPM's stay at about 3500-4000 and the truck begins to shake. I don't even know where to start on this issue so I am hoping you guys can help me out. Thanks in advance.

I think I know where this problem came from but I just want to make sure. When I had my truck misfiring, it was doing a top speed of about 20 M.P.H. which I believe was in O/D. Now, I drove to school and home with the truck misfiring and then to my friends house to work on it. I probably did a total of about 20 miles almost all of it was using O/D because that's the only way it would go anywhere. Now I'm just guessing that this would cause my O/D clutch pack to wear out. Is that correct?

your O/D is the extension off your tranny. It simply enable you to cruise at higher speeds at lower RPMs therefore less fuel is burned at the cost of torque. Turn O/D off and just ride with it. you wont lose that much in MPG at all. IDK how much O/D units run but if you scrapped your current one and bought one out of a yard then youd be set

Alright so I just got a new boat-load of information about my problem. So it turns out, that the problem isn't with my O/D. I wasn't clear enough when I was describing my problem. What is happening is, when I put the gas pedal to the floor, the car doesn't accelerate. I have asked multiple people about this and I have heard about 4 different things.
1. MAF Sensor
2. Throttle Position Indicator
3. Fuel Filter Clogged
4. Bad Transmission
I am hoping to hell it's not the last one. Does anybody have any other ideas or suggestions as to what I can do to eliminate possibilities and/or solve the problem?

I've encountered plenty of times where my skinny pedal is as far as it will go did it today, passing someone, actually. with my o/d off, haha. I never use o/d unless I'm cruising above 60-65ish. and when you live where I do, its all back roads that you cant drive over 65ish haha.

your engine should jump down a gear no matter if your MAF isnt in proper working order. The ECU will not be able to detect % of O2 entering the engine so to compensate your ECU will dump fuel above and beyond the preset mixture just to be safe. this will kill MPG (-2 or -3) but should not mess with gear jump function. I would definitely say fuel line filter or what I said originally. your tranny and your O/D unit are separate parts just connected. the loss of a gear jump function shouldn't cause you to buy a new tranny. otherwise just look into a new O/D unit. ive never replaced one but the process looks pretty straight forward

It does jump down a gear but then stays at about 3500 RPMs. I have replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the MAF. I seem to be having the same no acceleration issue. I should also add that when it goes into 2nd and 3rd gear it revs up to 4000 RPMs and won't shift unless you let off the throttle a little bit. My only other ideas before transmission issues are TP sensor and vacuum leak. I have looked around and felt for a vacuum leak and haven't found one yet but sometimes they can be sneaky.

When was the last time you changed your trans fluid and filter? Test the tps before replacing use a ohm meeter and check for a steady increase in resistance there should be no jumps or dead spots is you find there is you have most likely found your problem. Next would be the fuel filter pull the spark plugs and check them out they could be dirty. Also pop open the hood on a good dark night with the lights off and engine running and look to see if you have a light show coming from your plug wires.
