Ok, so here's the detailed story:

Last Christmas, I went to Circuit City, and got the $99 install deal on one of their Pioneer stereos. They installed it, yay.

So, about a month ago, I came to realize that the volume level in my cab was significantly lower than usual, and after doing some quick fading tests, realized the rear speakers were both shot. So, yesterday, I went to Walmart and, like many others, picked up those Pioneer...whatever the # is for $60 a pair.

Now, I didn't know the color codes were on here at the time, so my mechanic friend simply just said don't worry about it (and I've read this on here, but also heard that it DOES matter) we'll just hook them up. So we crimped on female quick disconnects and hooked up all four speakers, closed it all up and reconnected the negative battery cable. Turned on the stereo, and lo and behold, only the left front speaker is working...(Mind you, it sounds fantastic though, so I can't wait to fix this lol).

The settings on the stereo were all checked, the balance is centered, so is the fade. So, I'm not quite sure, maybe there's some bad connections? I'm wondering if Circuity City did something wrong because if I turn on the subwoofer setting on the unit, the rear speakers start pumping low end and nothing else (and don't do anything with the subwoofer setting turned to off.) So that makes me wonder if Circuit City wired them to the stereo unit incorrectly...which is fine because I have a protection plan and they will just fix that, but does it sound like the wiring could be a problem? It also makes me wonder that if CC did wire them wrong, did they blow my stock rear speakers (which isn't as much of a concern as getting this fixed, since honestly I wanted new speakers anyways..) Should I double check the colors anyways and rewire them with the proper polarity, I didn't look to see if I guessed right anyways.

The other speakers are wired backwards

 

Are you referring to the rear speakers, or the other 3 that aren't working?

 

The other 3 that aren't working. It wouldn't hurt to double check anyway.

Ok so, being that the left front speaker was working, I left it alone. I took off the right door panel and one of the quick disconnects for that speaker came off, put it back on, and it was fine. However, no matter which way the wires are hooked on to the rear speakers, they pump out bass, and thats only if I enable the subwoofer to be "on" on the stereo...sound like a mix up in the back of the head unit?

 

Nevermind, it's fixed! There was a problem with the rear speaker setting on the unit, it was set to act as subwoofers and not full speakers, so there we go, problem solved. :)

 

glad you got it fixed. don't ever let circuit city touch your stereo again.

 

well first off you have a 1 year warrenty on the speakers, and should have lifetime warrenty on the labor. so i would have taken the truck back to CC and told them to fix it. and gotten new speakers for free. i see it happen everyday at my shop
