leaking transmission oil... how bad?

My truck is a 2004 Ranger Edge with a 4.0 and 3.55s. Here are some pictures so you know whats going on. How bad is this and what exactly is wrong? Should I take it to Ford, its on warranty untill 75,000 and im only at 30,000.

Dealer ASAP.

To me the tailshaft seal is shot. I don't think the shaft is suppose to be out that far.

Only reason I say ASAP is your bumper to bumper is about to run out.

As long as your fluid level is ok you should be fine on the trans.

id say don't worry about that 1/4". from what i know the tail shaft is so posed to move. the drive shaft is bolted right to the pinion on the rear end. so how else is the drive shaft to move when the rear suspension compresses and rebounds. some other drive lines have slip yokes, but our trucks have them built into the trans.

now the oil stain yea get it fixed. should be simple as a new seal. yet i do not know whats involved in getting to the seal. more than likely labor's going to kill ya.

just my -.02 cents. hope to see ya saterday

The extended warranty is not from ford but a third party. The extended warranty I had cost 100 per incident as a deductible. Im not sure if yours is the same. Also if there is more damage later the will call an adjuster in to verify work that needs to be done. Meaning it will take longer.

If you let this go to long you run the risk of running too low on fluid and may kill the transmission. This is the reason you have a bumper to bumper for 36k.

I had three driveshafts within my first 36k, on ball joint, and a new seat cover. If the truck isn't perfect now take it in. Its part of the price you paid.

The truck is broke make them fix it. The dealer will warranty the work, so if it happens again it will go on to them not your extended.

I wish ford still worked on my truck under warranty. They blame anything on everything.
