Clutch Sqeak or Squeal

OK, I am expereinceing a strange noise when engaging 1st gear on occasion. When I am completely stopped, and start going in first gear, occasionally I get a sqeal right as I finish releasing the clutch. I don't hear any noise in any other gear, and I have no problem shifting in to any gears so I doubt it is the slave cylinder issue. The squeal is almoost a squeak if that helps? and it only does it when releasing the clutch in 1st when starting out in first. For clarity sake, the details of my truck are in my sig, and naturally it is a manual transmission.

There used to be a TSB for Ranger clutch squawk around 2000 maybe but I don't think it applies to later models. You could take it back to the dealer and tell them that it's not right and see if they will do anything under warranty.

Miy 2003 used to squawk, especially starting against a resistance like uphill. It hasn't done it since the clutch and slave were replaced at 18K.

It seems that resistence does play a roll in my squeak, but it is not consistent. Was your squeak related to the clutch and slave? Or was it a seperate issue?

I hate to bring up an old thread, but the dealership finally decided that my squeal did exist, and sure enough, the slave cylinder, and clutch need to be replaced, and the flywheel resurfaced. The good ole slave cylinder issue is for real!

Welcome to the club. Some have had it replaced and then it go bad again within like 5k miles...I hope mine will go longer than that. I got a new one about 2k miles ago.

I had my master and slave cylinders replaced a while back (Oct 05). Shortly after the replacing of those cylinders (and Ford calling to tell me the problem wasn't my cylinders, but my pressure plate) I too got the squeal. I only had it when starting in 1st or on an incline. I took it back to Ford, describing the sound. I was told by the servicedept manager that sometimes the bonehead techs forget to take an anti-corrosive surfacing off of the pressure plate after a new install and that the sound would stop as soon as the coating wore off. I still get the squeal for time to time, but it's nowhere near as loud as what it use to be. On Thursday I have the fun joys of having my tranny looked at. I have a leak at the rear seal. Pretty damn lame I have to wait until then. I'm tempted to call a couple of other local dealers to see if they can get me in sooner. Only problem is I work straight through this weekend and first half of next week, with Thursday being my only day off. Oh well, maybe the tranny will explode.

Well, after all the threads I have read on this issue, and after talking to the mechanic at the dealership (we grew up together), I decided that this issue wasn't one I wanted to deal with again. According to the mechanic, most of the rigs that he has fixed this problem on have ended up back in for the same problem withing 20,000 miles.

I traded my baby in for a 2006 Jeep Liberty Renegade. I miss her already, but I really don't need to deal with this issue again, and my third child is due next month, so it was really time to get a back seat, and room for a car seat. I will post pics of the Liberty soon. Thank you all for all of your help.

Brigrat!

Well that's one way to deal with the problem...

But those Liberties are pretty nice, especially for the family man. My Dad almost got one, we test drove a couple last year. Hope you stick around the site though!

yeah, I'm still around, I have learned more about vehicles around here in the last few months than the rest of my life combined. Besides, I am still haggling over trade in value on the B4000, so if they don't make me happy, I might just keep the B4000 around for a while longer.
