Herculiner....

I am thinking of doing the herculiner mod.. I KNOW IT HAS BEEN DISCUSSED A HUNDRED TIMES! But what I want to know is for those who have it, would they do it again and how much did they need to do the bed (short bed). The web site says the stuffs is no good after you open it up and it is 100 bucks for a gallon and 2 paint brushs. The quarts are 29 and I can get brushes for 2 bucks! Do you need a gallon to do the bed or would a few quarts do it?

1 Gallon did my Ranger Bed but I don't think It was $100 for the gallon my in-laws got me it for x-mas last year. They wouldn't have paid that much for it.

As for doing it again. I would do it on my ranger but not on my f-150 or anything I actually cared about. I would just wait and go with a Profesional Line-X Sprayed In Liner

ok, did it look like crap or is there another reason why you would not do it to your nice truck?

Don't you remmeber the bed of my yellow edge? Herculiner sux, and I actually sanded the bed to do it...

I would use it on bedrails, and stuff, but not large areas...

I'v got the Rustoleum Epoxy bedliner. I love it. It has the same consistancy as Line-X. So yea, I'd do it again.

It didn't look very good and actually chipped off in places under hard use.

I put the herculiner in my old truck and it didn't hold up that well. It doesn't stand up to any kind of use. I applied it properly also. I would check out the Rustleom stuff (I haven't used it) or save up for a Line-X or similar pro installed liner.

It is very easily gouged. I had it on My 01 and I still had to have a bed mat, becasue anything I put in there would gouge it pretty good. I was always touching it up. I finally sanded it down and got it Rhino lined. Just remember you get what you pay for and $400 for rhino liner or line-x is relatively cheap and looking at your truck the Sprayed in liner would probably one of the cheapest mods you got!

i wouldn't use it in your bed unless you put a bedmat over it. i did my bed sides and my wheel wells with it and didn't touch too much of the bed floor because i was planning on keeping my bed mat in it. anyhow if you have studded tires on a 4 wheeler or run a sled in over the wheel wells you might as well forget about the hurculiner staying on. but if your bed is scratched to all hell like mine was it covers it up damn good, but it also faded. if i were to hurculine again i would spray paint over it so it doesn't fade. i also did my bed rails and my rocker panels and that has held up great.

I used the herculiner kit in my bed about five months ago. It's holding up fine. Don't use the sos pads they give you to "sand down" your bed. I used 100 grit sandpaper. My truck is a work truck. It's at the job site everyday. I throw generators, deer, my toolboxes, my three-wheeler in and out all the time. I haven't had a problem with it yet. I had enough for a light beginner coat and three thick coats. It's stickin like a sob, I did mine in the dark while I was drinking in my parents garage. I left one of the lil cubby holes under the bedrail of the flareside with like two coats and the rest of the truck has four. Other than that I can't complain, and that was my own damn fault. I used Duplicote Bed Liner Spray on my exterior body panels and rear bumper cover and they turned out more like line-x. The herculiner is more of a rubbery tar like coating with alot of rubber granules, where as the duplicote spray left a nice textured/smooth more durable looking finish. I got wedged between two trees the other day and it scratched the hell out of my paint where the duplicote stopped. I rubbed my finger on the duplicote stuff and the scratch came right off. I wish I could say the same for my paint =\. I'd recommend either one.
