1993 Ford Ranger 4 Liter Mass Air Sensor

Hello All,

I've picked up a couple codes on my truck and was wondering if there was anything I can do to repair the part instead of buying.

First code is 185 mass air flow sensor below normal.

Second code 186 fault in injector pulse width circuit / high.

I'm also now 100% on the 186 code? Could it be caused by the mass air sensor??

😊

185 (M) Mass Air (MAF) output lower than expected – Fuel control
186 (M) Injector pulse width longer than expected or Mass Air Flow (MAF) lower than expected – Fuel control

Both are for MAF sensor in this case
MAF sensor can be cleaned, not hard to do

Also at 30 years old the Computer may need to be pulled out and cleaned, also 3 capacitors replaced

And if you are not sure on the age of the O2 sensors, there are 2 on a 1993 4.0l, then change them
O2 sensors are the ONLY sensors that wear out, 12 years or 100k miles, and MPG starts to go down, there will be no O2 sensor code until they are completely dead and you could have bought 10 O2s with the money wasted on extra gas it was burning, by that time

Cleaning the mass air flow sensor was the fix. The ranger now runs great and has a ton of power.

Thanks 😊
