Icon4 L1224R Wiring HELP!

I just wired in my L1224R's and even put the LED flasher relay in and everything works well until I turn the park lights on.

When I turn the park lights on and turn the right or left signal on, BOTH sides blink but only the rear lights. If I signal right, the front right signals are on as well as BOTH rear L1224R's.
Same as if I signal left.

If I turn the parking lights off and signal, everything is perfect.

I wired the L1224R's up as listed.

Pin 2 Green stripe = Ground
Pin 3 Blue Stripe = Running Lights (Low)
Pin 1 Red Stripe = Stop/Signal (High)

On my 01 Ranger I have the following wires

Left Side

Black = Ground
Brown = Running Lights
Green w/ Red Strip = Signal/Stop

Right Side

Black = Ground
Brown = Running Lights
Red w/ Grey Strip = Signal/Stop

There is something with the L1224R's that is making this issue, or the flasher relay. Both the stock flasher relay (which causes hyperflash) and the LED relay both have the same effect on the tails lights flashing when the parking lights are on.

I put my stock harnesses back on and there is no flasher issues. When I cut the stock harnesses out, I used bullet connectors so I can use the L1224R's and still swap the stockers back in if needed.

I have all my wires exposed and need to correct this issue ASAP!!

HELP!!!!

Yes, from ShadowRanger08.

He had them on his Ranger along with the flasher. He is going back to stock to sell.
I checked and then rechecked everything. I tested the open ends coming from the truck and then hooked up the L1224R's and it seems when there is a load on the system, both flash. I think I'll be hooking my stockers back up .

Hooked my stockers back up along with the stock flasher. I also found that the EP27 flasher is very loud. Louder then my stock one.

Anyway, if anyone knows what would be causing these to not work, let me know.

This may help...

Top = running/parking
Middle = ground
Bottom = turn/brake

Wiring is really straight forward.....if wired up right, it'll work. If not but it is wired up right, I'd start looking at other parts of the taillight harness.

Exactly, the wiring IS quite straight forward. I had both sides hooded up as pictured. Top being pin 3 and bottom being pin 1.

When the running lights were OFF, the L1224R's worked correctly with respect to a left or right turn indicator. When the running lights were turned ON, it didn't matter if I had the right or left indicator, BOTH L1224R's would flash.

I hooked my stock harnesses back up and put the stock flasher unit back in.....everything works as it should.

There is an issue with A) the flasher unit, or B) the L1224R's them self. I really can't think of any wiring issues because the stock set up works correctly.

I'm stumped.

I too am sorta stumped. I figured you had it all hooked up correctly, just was making sure is all. I've had to whip that picture out a few times for people who never heard of a test light or multimeter. LOL.

I sorta thing this may be flasher related, but then again, only hte problems happen with both 'filaments' are lit in the LED. I'm so freakin' puzzled. I'd go out and find a new flasher since they're cheap. Shoot...toss in your stock flasher. It'll blink fast but that'd be a way of narrowing it down.

If everyone would buy the VLEDs flasher like I tell them life would be better - I just invented this mod though, so what do I know.

Everyone doesn't need your precious VLED's flasher. You can buy locally EP27 LED flasher's like I did. Just gotta hunt 'em down and you save that $7 shipping they charge and the flasher is half the price.

I put the stock flasher in when I realized what the tails were doing. I got the same issue, just with hyperflash.

Yes. No issues prior to the install. The L1224R's were going on with the parking lights and flashing when signaled right/left, but the issues occurs only when the parking lights are on and a signal is selected, and only using the L1224R's.

My stock harness with the 3157's work perfectly.

Been doing some reading.

I have incandescent bulbs up front in my turn signals as well as I did the corner lamp signal mod as well. Is anyone running these L1224R's with incandescent bulbs up front? Would this be an issue??

Would resistors between the L1224R's ground and turn/stop wires help instead of the EP-27 flasher?

I don't see how running incandescent and the LED would affect your turn signals like that. All that would create is a faster flash due to the smaller load when using the blinker.

I can't think of anything that would cause that issue as long as the wiring is right.

I know. I'm completely stumped on this.

I'm going to take another crack on it on Saturday when I have a bit more time. The issue occurs only when the parking lights and turn signals are on together and only with the L1244R's. The stock set-up works perfectly.

I contacted the original owner and he said that these were taken off his truck last week and were in good working order. I believe him. As they do work, just not on my truck for some reason. LOL

Aside from changing your corner mod back to stock, I'll be absolutely no help with the LED's here, but my EP27 flasher was quite a bit louder than the OEM one too.
I wrapped several layers of foam & duct tape followed by electrical tape around mine, and it's still a little louder than stock... but no more hyper-flash.

You can always use Resistors to make it pull current like stock. I have to do that on my IX where you can't replace a flasher. Flashers are just the cleaner way to do things.

I have incandescent's up front in both signal and corner lamp. Have had the turnsignal mod since '04. Have L1224R's in the back. Wired just as shown in picture above. And running an Autozone EP27 LED flasher. I havn't had any issue whatsoever in the almost 2 years of running the L1224R's. Well...I take that back. Both things I JB'd to the tail housing fell off. lol. Nothing mechanical with the LED's or any other lighting system have gone wrong.

Mine's an '01 and your '02 is virtually exactly like mine. The only thing that comes in my mind is the DRL's you've got. BUT...it's got like nothing to do with tails and brake/signals.

I'm totally stumped. Maybe splice in an incandescant dual filament bulb back there WITH the LED's and see what happens?

I'll hook the LEDs in line with the incandesant bulbs and see what happens. I'll also try running resistors on the LEDs.

My DRL's have been pulled for a few years now and I have an 01 too.

But thanks for all the input guys. Hopefully I'll get these to work.
