manual tranny 2nd gear after BL
I'm surprised there are no posts on this...
After my BL and obviously installation of the shifter extension, the shifter (when in second gear) is about 1/8 of an inch from the plastic console. The way I have it now, with the front of the boot (1, 3, 5 side), tucked into the console and the rear (2, 4, R side) just resting there, it goes into 2nd pretty good. But if I tuck the boot into the console like it was originally, there is just enough rubber on the boot there to give me resistance in second...and you can see that it pulls on the whole console.
What are you guys doing to fix that, should I notch a little bit out from the plastic on the console?

And I'm 100% sure the extension is installed properly...I even made sure that the bolt that holds the extension on was near the top of the indent in the lever that comes out out of the tranny...because I could see you you could slide that extension up/down a good quarter of an inch or so.

Unscrew the plastic bezel from the plastic floor mounting piece, move it til it's in a nice place and unbinding or whatever....when it's not hitting anything, then run your screws through the carpeting. It should only be moved back less than an inch and everything still functions just as it should.
You might wanna hit up a hardware store and grab some self tapping screws.
OR....just remove the boot and trim the bezel where it's tight.
OR....be cool and just get a Hurst.

hrmm...I wonder why I didn't think of that. So basically screw the console into the floor and not that square mounting piece underneath that says "EXPLORER FRONT" or whatever on it?
Half of that mounting piece below on mine was broken anyway from the screws I guess being overtightened...which means someone probably has put a clutch in it. The old owner thought he had that done but couldn't remember...clearly not a car guy.

Yeah....just move it back a little bit and run the screws. Mount it to the floor, not the plastic 'explorer front/ranger front' thing. I did that to mine when I first lifted it.
It's pretty common for the screw holes on that plastic floor piece to be split/chipped open. I've had a few of those swapped in the truck before....I contributed to them breaking. lol.

yeah i just got a body lift last week, and i had to trim the plastic console. My shifter would smack the console when i shifted into 2nd and 4th, but it just barely hit it. I trimmed some of the console..easy fix. Then the boot.....it drove me insane to hear and feel that squeaking and resistance when i shifted into 2nd, so i snatched it off hehehe. So now i have no boot, but im happy, and ill be smiling when i get a hurst!!!

you mean the rubber that dips downwards? I didnt plan on trimming it, but after i modify and reinstall the boot, can i shove like cotton or something in there? haha its and idea but i dont know.

I'm talking about when you install the hurst, the instructions tell you to cut the rubber floor boot that the cupholders bolt to. You should see the rubber circle you're shifter goes thru since you don't have a shift boot on the truck right now. I'm talking of that....don't cut it as it's not needed on a BL'd truck.
