Diesel Swap
In Calif, probably not.
It gets pretty expensive to swap engine types and sizes in Calif., you would need to do the swap then a inspection company needs to go thru everything, even things you didn't touch.
You pay them and they give to a list of things that need to be changed and to what
When changes are done you pay them again to see whats wrong, lol
This goes on until they give you a "Road Worthy" certificate
THEN you take it to smog guys, pay them, they tell you why it won't pass emissions, and you get another list on what to change, repeat
If you are lucky you get to Calif testing and pass
If you are not lucky you register it in another state, lol.

It does have to be the same year engine, and you also have to have the VIN and possibly the title from the donor vehicle. Emissions have to be the same as the original engine or better, otherwise they will fail you.
