Icon5 Need the 2.3 to sound like a v8

So I’ve dumped my exhaust on my 1994 ranger 2.3 and it looks pretty sick with my flatbed. Now I’m looking to get that v8 sound. What exhaust are y’all running with a 2.3 for a good sound.

Thanks. Does it sound like a rumble or just deep. I’m looking for the rumble

Contrary to what you might think, or want, nothing you do, and no exhaust you put on that 2.3 4 cyl engine will make it sound like a V-8. You will not get a "rumble" sound, no matter what you put on.
Almost any aftermarket exhaust or muffler might give it a more "throaty" sound or deeper, but only a V-8 will sound like a V-8. An aftermarket cat-back exhaust will give you 6-8 more HP and a bit of torque,
but no V-8 sound.
Sorry, but thats just the way a 4 cyl sound. Even built up racing 4 bangers do not/will not sound like a V-8.

What about swapping a 3.0 or a 4.0 into it

Yes, you would think running a 4cyl at 4,000rpm would sound just like a V8 running at 2,000rpm, same number of cylinders firing every minute
But unfortunately it doesn't work that way
The 4cyl just never generates the lower frequencies because only 1 cylinder fires at each 180deg rotation of the crank, twice per revolution
A V6 fires at each 120deg of rotation of the crank 3 times per revolution
A V8 fires every 90deg of rotation of the crank, 4 times per revolution
So you get the rumble and lower frequencies of exhaust pulses that are very close together

It going to be kind of hard to v8 swap it because I’m in high school and money is kind of scarce and trucks around here (gold hill, NC) go for about $3000 running in rough shape and before I do that I would put another $500 with that and buy a brand new 4bt Cummins transmission and all bolted to it ready to drop in

If u swap in a V6 and use "Black Widow" mufflers from So Cal it will sound VERY close to a V8....check em out on YOUTUBE.

Here's a V6 Challenger with the 3.6 V6......

That definitely sounds like a V6 hornet's nest after you stuck your finger in the entry. Still doesn't sound like a V8.

As the old saying use to go, "there's no substitute for cubic inches".

Same goes for the number of cylinders. You will never make a 3, 4, 5, or 6 cylinder sound like rumble of the V8. No matter how close it sounds someone will know and tell you, "you could have had a V8".

Pipe Organ
Larger diameter longer straight pipes produce lower frequency sounds from the same air flow
Smaller diameter shorter are higher frequency

Lower frequency is what you are after, the rumble
Use it

But it will NEVER EVER sounds like a V8

First one would be the lower frequency sound

Second one would be a good TV antenna, VHF not UHF

It's all about the bass... no treble.

I said "Very close" to a V8, not that it sounded like a V8.
