Oil Plug Help !

09 Mazda b2300.

Changing the oil for the first time since I bought the truck (usually just paid for past oil changes).

The plug head is good, not stripped or anything. But it's stuck, like massively stuck. Standard 3/8th ratchet wouldn't budge it. Air ratchet which is rated for roughly 60 ft/lbs of torque wouldn't move it.

I know the old breaker bar or impact gun would take it off but I'm just wondering the likely hood that the bolt/or/pan is stripped due to it being so tight.

I've seen the oversized plugs or helicoil kits and I have a minor background in machining so if it is fixing it is no problem. I have neither the tool or plug but if I have to buy it - so be it.

I change the oil in my wife's car regularly so I'm not new to oil changes and have yet to strip a plug yet in my life as I seem to have a bit of a healthy fear regarding them as far as tightening goes.

Also due to the weird year that 2020 was, I only put about 5k miles on the truck, so the last oil change was probably last Xmas as the truck was used rather intermittently.

So I'm just wondering if time could contribute to the plug being extra tight and just need a little more help then usual due to the lengthy interval. Or some idiot overtightened it and now I'm probably dealing with more than a 15 min job.

Thanks

I'm with you on being cautious of over tightening them! Unfortunately you have only one real choice. Get the breaker bar or cheater pipe on the ratchet and just break it loose. If it was NOT cross threaded it should be fine coming out.

I tried it again with the breaker bar and mallet.
Luckily it finally broke loose, there were a few shavings but the thread still looked good, is isn't leaking or anything. But I'll order a new plug for next time.
I have a feeling it was overtightened, but oh well.
