95’ ranger 2.3 supercab

the oil pressure gauge is always at the half way point.

Acclelarating, braking, turning on, incline, hot, cold.... etc.

Would this be a sensor issue or something with my cluster? My odometer doesn’t work, and a few bulbs on the right side of the cluster doesn’t work. The rest of the gauges seem to work fine. Though I question my temp gauge, the hottest it shows is a 1/4 of the way up. And it shows cold even after 20 minutes of driving. But I’ve read a few times that it’s normal for quite a few people.

 

The oil gauge is not really a gauge, it's more like an indicator (or idiot light). As long as you have at least 7lbs of oil pressure it will ride around the halfway point all the time whether you have 60lbs or 7lbs. There is a way to make it a functional gauge but I recommend installing an after market one if you really want to know what your actual oil pressure is. Don't quote me on this but I think you should have at operating temp around 40lbs @ 2500rpm. Ran across that in a manual for my 3.0L I think.

Oil pressure gauge is either ON or OFF is won't vary by oil pressure only voltage

2.3l does run cold, especially in cold weather, it should be using a 195deg thermostat, not 180deg, they even make a 205deg thermostat for colder climates
Thermostat sets minimum operating temp for coolant in the engine, so has nothing to do with "overheating".
It helps heater blow hot and makes for cleaner oil(higher oil temp) and better MPG(engine with coolant at 190-210deg burns gasoline more efficiently)

Many with 2.3l's put cardboard in front of radiator in winter to keep colder air out of engine bay, this helps keep engine coolant temp up

The SENDER for coolant temp may be on drivers side rear of engine, so doesn't register the hottest coolant in the engine, which will be near thermostat.
