Icon9 Major engine problems :-(

check engine light: Miss fight on cylinder 1.
RPM's getting stuck.

Step one: Took throttle body off and cleaned the poop out of it. Was a dark deep black and now is a shinny sliver.
Step two: Changed all 8 Spark plugs & Wires.

After doing this, there is now a hesitation in the engine and the RPMs are little worse. Say the truck is at a stand still and just idling. When you get the truck past 15 mph the RPMs get stuck. When you push the clutch the RPMs coast up to about just over half throttle. They are now getting up stuck at about 15MPH or lower.

I really have no idea what's going on and I need to smog the darn thing this month. I don't have the money to take it to a shop but I can fix thing on my own just need to know what's going on.

Any bit of help would be worth millions, Thanks guys.

Idle problem sounds like an Idle Air Control valve - i'd try cleaning out the IAC and see if there are any improvements.

Would that be just for the RPMs or both problems?

Same thing as your throttle body. Or you could use carb cleaner or any kind of engine degreaser. Your going to put the IAC back on when it's dry anyway so use what you have/want.

So I cleaned the IAC this morning and the problem is still there. Going to have to try and find a vacuum leek somewhere. Any tips on this?

You can spray something... I think cab cleaner by your vaccuum lines while the engine is idling. If the rpms go up, the leak is in that area where you just sprayed the carb cleaner.

I'm not sure if carb cleaner is the correct thing to use, research that first before you attempt to try it.

I haven't done it yet. But would there be a chance of the RPMs dropping? If so what does that mean?

If IRC this may have been a mistake , There should be a black coating inside the bore applied at the factory.

And at 168K miles , have you changed the timing belt yet ?

the TPS is located on the side of the throttle body, and never ever use carb clean on a IAC, it will get into the motor and eat the plastic and the coating on the windings
