2010 2.3l Ranger uses a CHT(cylinder head temp) sensor, no ECT sensor, a sender is used for dash temp gauge, on a metal pipe behind the head

CHT sensor is located between cylinders 2 and 3, thru the valve cover, inline with spark plugs

So it doesn't measure coolant temp at all, it measures head metal temp

You don't need to take valve cover off, just showing you what it looks like, you need a deep 19mm socket to take it out, no coolant will come out, as said it doesn't contact coolant at all
