timing

my '94 ranger with a 2.3 lima engine seems to be down on power. I would like to check the timing but I can't find the spout connector. I do see three connectors behind the battery, one black, one white & one grey. Anybody have info on which one I need to disconnect to check the timing?
And whats up with the 8 spark plugs? do they all fire at once?

Yes, both spark plugs in each cylinder fire at the same time, its for better performance, Dodge used it on their Hemi's as well, but switching to 4 Valves in each cylinder was better power, so dual spark plugs lost out over time

1994 2.3l SOHC Lima engine has no distributor so no need for a SPOUT connector, base spark timing is not adjustable

If you lost power then test compression in all 4 cylinders, if its below 140psi then timing belt has stretched or slipped a tooth

Just re=set the timing on my 2.3L and actually no paid no attention to the oil pump timing. Could this little gliche cause my truck to run nicely, with NO POWER and NO TORQUE? Im up for suggestions. Frankly I cannot see how the oil pump could affect the relationship between the crank and the cam but I'm really new to this funky little mill and willing to give it a try. Thanks waaay in advance!

It would depend on the year of the 2.3l Lima engine, and if it has a Cam sensor

On the 2.3l and 2.5l there is a cam sensor that reads the AUX gear position, because the AUX gear and Cam Gear are the same size if they are timed together then AUX gear works as a "Cam position" locator

Many 1989 and up 4cyl used cam sensors, and yes if you have a Cam sensor and its "out of time" then you would lose power, and should also get a Code about Cam sensor
Prior to this AUX gear wasn't timed, it was just an oil pump gear

Early fuel injection used Batch Fire, not sequential fuel injection, this just squirts fuel into the lower intake so any cylinder can suck in air/fuel mix as needed, one-step up from a Carb engine
Sequential injection needs more precise timing than a crank sensor can provide, this is why Cam sensors were added, so an injector can be timed to spray fuel only when a cylinders intake valve opens, same as spark is timed, for better MPG and power
