2.9 swap

2.9 swap
Okay so I have an 89 2.9l v6 bronco 2 with a manual transmission. Needed a new motor. Found one that matches in a junkyard that runs. Brought it home and started the swap. Found out I needed a new pilot bearing for the replacement motor. I'm guessing it came out of a ranger with a auto trans. I've heard tell that if it was hooked to an auto trans there might be a cap behind the pilot bearing that would need to be taken out to accept the manual trans shaft. Is this true or just some shade tree mechanics tall tail. And if it is true how do I get it out?

Welcome to the forum
Never read about that in regards to Rangers, on any engine?
Automatic doesn't use a pilot bearing so crank hole should be empty, which is good, old pilot bearings can be a pain to pull out, lol
Replace the rear main seal, always, any time you have access to it, cheap part but hard to get at if it leaks
There should be a plate between engine and transmission, they are different for manual and automatic, so make sure to use the manual plate, this plate helps align starter motor
