2000 Ranger 3.0 with NO Mph Speed showing up while driving
All of my dash gauges work Except for my *Speed gauge* & when I go to reset my Miles after like putting Gas in, that also don't work at all... now none of this worked ever since I bought the truck, now does me having Big 35 BFG tires have anything to due with it not working??? ALSO IN THIS POST I ADDED A PICTURE OF MY RANGER WITH THE TIRES ON IT.
No, tires would not be the issue, they could cause speed to be a few MPH higher or lower but not no speed at all
Does the yellow ABS light on the dash come on when driving?
If not then the rear axle Speed Sensor(VSS) is OK
The speedometer and Odometer(trip meter) share the one "signal" wire coming from the GEM module behind the radio in 1998-2000 Rangers
So you are saying BOTH do not work, correct?
If you have Cruise Control does it work?
It uses the same speed "signal" from GEM
If possible get the Codes checked, if you get code P0500 then the GEM is most likely the issue
If no P0500 then GEM is working and problem may be in the instrument cluster
You can buy a Bluetooth OBD2 reader for under $20, works using any smartphone with free APP
Works on ANY vehicle made, 1996 and up, required by law, so not a Ford thing, so good tool to have in the box
I installed a brand new speed sensor about 2 weeks ago & it made No difference at all....now the steering wheel itself is missing most of the buttons that I figured were prolly cruse controls, could that be the issue,? Me having missing buttons on the steering wheel? I'll take pictures inorder to let you see what I'm talking about...honestly I got the truck for a decent price so I knew I would be putting money into it inorder to get it back to a reliable working condition...I can't lie I always been a import guy, but I'm really starting to fall for the Ranger all around....thanks man
ALSO MY (O.D) light always blinks when driving even though my OD works pretty good, I don't understand that at all.
Flashing OD light means there are Transmission Codes set in computer memory, most auto parts stores will read the codes for you, WRITE THEM ALL DOWN!!!!!
Partial Ford code list here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...trouble_codes/
P0700 is the start of transmission codes
Each code means something slightly different than another code
So saying "I think it was Pxxxx........." is worst than having no code at all because you will end up chasing your tail
Also see if P0500 is there, that could also be why OD light flashes
Thank you so much dude, im going to just keep studying & learning about Rangers in general. I keep seeing that they will get 300,000miles with no problems if taken care of.
