2002 ecm/pcm
2002 ecm/pcm
I have a 2002 3.0 automatic with a bad ecm/pcm. I found one at a local salvage yard with number
2L5A12A650CB
mine is a2L5A12A650CC
Could someone tell me if those numbers are interchangeable, and do I have to flash the new ecm/pcm. I called the local Ford dealer and they said it doesn’t have to be flashed. That doesn’t sound right to me since I have chips in my keys. Any help would be appreciated thank you
Computer should work fine provided it's from the same year, same engine, same transmission (auto vs manual), same fuel system (flex fuel vs non-flex fuel), and provided neither truck has California emissions.
You will need to get the keys with the junkyard computer, otherwise you will have to have a locksmith come out and "marry" either your current set of keys or a new set of keys to the computer. The Ford dealer most likely won't touch anything older than 10 years.

2L5A12A650CB should be 2L5A-12A650-CB
2 = 2002 year
L5 = Ford Ranger or Mazda B-series
A = electronic department
12A650 = Ford part number for an engine computer(PCM) for ANY model and ANY year
CB = revision number, Ford NEVER released a cross reference for these
There should also be a STAMPED number on the label, that tells which size engine, and what transmission its for, Ford also never released any cross reference for these
Best way to match any PCM is to know what engine it was for/came from(2.3l, 3.0l or 4.0l), and which transmission, manual or automatic
Outside of that the 2L5A12A650CB number doesn't help except for YEAR and Model(L5-Ranger)
And yes, +1 to above, each PCM was programmed at factory with 3 or 4 keys, so you must get an original key with it, or after PCM is installed you need to have a mobile locksmith come out and add your current keys(need 2 keys) to the new PCMs memory
You can not test the new PCM until thats done, there is no work around for it
Mobil locksmith may also be able to match new PCMs internal odometer to vehicle and match VIN, depending on what software he has, this is not required for operation
