2003 3.0L - To Those Who Still Have Fan Clutches & Have Replaced Yours Already (pics)
I just looked it up on www.napaonline.com. They show the actual part for most of what they sell instead of representative images. The pump does have four threaded holes, but as mentioned I never saw bolts on mine.

4.0L rangers have the bolts visible. 3.0L rangers do not from my understanding. So that tool only works on 4.0L rangers.
IT IS ON!!!!
I read the post on electrical fan installation. Just had to loosen up all 4 bolts slide the tool in back of the pulley put the 7/8 wrench on the clutch and hit it 6 or 7 times.

Finished product.

Thanks for all your help.

Don't feel bad I came close to shoving it up my axx. It was simple once I reread the post on the electric fan install.

Do you remember where your new clutch was made? I made sure I found a non-Ford aftermarket one made in USA before paying. NAPA was the only one I found. Autozone fan clutch is made in China. I made the mistake of buying that one a few months ago and took it right back when I saw the Made In China ink on it.

You guys are having soo much trouble trying to get the fan clutch off? I have a sure fire method: 1. Keep the belts on the engine 2. Use a set of channel lock pliers and turn the bad **** in the direction it is supposed to come off!
I'm avoiding or slowing down for large puddles and not plowing through flooded streets from now on to keep from washing out the bearings in the fan clutch and the idler & tensioner pullies.
RedRanger, no need to keep the belt on when trying to remove the clutch when you have a good strap wrench with a rubber belt strap (Craftsman with aluminum handle) and not a cheap plastic belt strap wrench. You can put more tension / clamping force on the water pump pulley with the strap wrench than with simply leaving the belt on. Maybe it's easier for you assuming you are refering to your 1991.

After you guys changed the clutch did it seem tight? It seems that mine is a little tight and locks when the temp slightly goes up. Like when I'm driving its fine until I stop for a red light then it will lock up until I'm moving for a while. Its kind of annoying since it soaks up power and sounds stupid but I figure it needs to break in.
After I installed mine it did seem a bit stiff to turn when I pushed on the fan blades with my finger. It does feel less stiff now that I've put some distance on it. With the old clutch it would barely turn. Right now with the summer heat I'm happy that I replaced it and don't feel like messing with it anymore. I leave all the power-adding and go-faster stuff for my Mustang.
