UD pulley, headers, intake, exhaust, Xcal2, ROLLER ROCKERS.. and was disappointed by the numbers on the dyno. Then of course we bolted on the whipple and saw some real numbers. :)
That's why I'm doing a couple little things and putting the cash (that would be wasted on bolt-ons) into an EE kit.

*edit BTW bring your truck over my way and I'll smoke you on 33's =]

Yes except for one little detail: if he doesn't do pedal-to-the-metal all the time, his transmission shift schedule will tend to shift a bit earlier and softer than if he really, really kicks it all the time.

I didn't say the other guy didn't know HOW to drive it -- I merely commented on it being a specific driver: if he doesn't push it a lot his truck will be slower than if he does due to adaptive stuff in the transmission controls.

did the f-150 have the 4.2L engine? or the 4.6 or the 5.0 or what.
My F-150 had the 5.4 & its best time was 16.5 in the quarter but that was @ 3000 feet above sea level.

It doesnt matter- look at what GM is doing, still using proven OHV technology on their V8's and getting more power than ford and with some even getting better fuel economy- and ford is stuck on SOHC V8's and DOHC V8's that have been inferior to the Chevy LS series and such of the 90's and on. BTW I-6's are torque monsters- can anybody say ford 300 I-6..? they arent like most 4 bangers that make more HP than torque- hell even my 1.8L turbo I-4 makes 180hp but 174 lb-ft torque and it's a 20 valve DOHC engine.

I'm just saying that OHV engines will typically make more torque vs horsepower than an SOHC or DOHC design.

Oh and I whooped up on full sizes when I had my ranger (pullies/hurst/tuner/borla/MAC)- a big truck is just that- a heavy truck compared to the ranger.. power : weight ratio people, think about it.

Id love to race a 3.0 with a EE on it! Would be awesome to hear it at WOT.... Although I have never been beatin by a 4.0 yet, auto or manual. Havent raced any highly modified (ie ones that appear that someone has been in the engine)... Doesnt mean I wont get beat by one some day, but as for now, I have yet to race a truck a loose of any sort. Doesnt mean I wont see a lightning, saleen, or some 7.3 with some mods to teach me otherwise...

I dont know where you are getting your numbers from, but a 04+ 3.0 has 148hp and the 4.0sohc from 01+ has 207 do the math and thats 59 more hp far from "100 more stock horsepower"

I was gonna say what about weight... if you were in a single cab 3.0 2wd vs. a 4wd ext cab 4.0... well... you would have a chance... I think

A manual 3.0 single cab can take a 4.0 4wd ext cab. I never raced side by side but I've seen two at the track basically running a 16 flat compared to my 16.3 in the 4.0.

So much of it is setup. All the hoopla with HP is one thing, traction is another. Think about this. My s-10 will run 60' in 2 seconds flat (hopefully soon to be 1.8 sec). the average ranger (or s-10)will be around 2.4 seconds. 4/10's of a second is HUGE. Traction lock, traction bars, and some good rear tires should be on the top list of mods.

Good info there^^ some good ladder traction bars help NICELY with take offs.. i loved them when i had my ranger.. the reg cab 3.0L/manuals are pretty peppy.. then doing the usual bolt-ons would really make it a 3.go

i highly doubt a 2000 3.0 can win a race against a 4.0 sohc. UNLESS the other driver really wasn't trying, or maybe his truck wasn't running good. all i know is that my 4.0 sohc (auto) would beat any 3.0 that didn't have a supercharger. end of comment.

Red Bay, ALA, where exactly is that? GrandAM GT only beat you by 1 1/2? Then he/she wasn't playing, my wife had a 95 GrandAM GT and them things are quick. However I have read your entire thread and I ain't pulling the BS flag yet but I don't believe ya without seeing it

I dunno what else to tell ya beside just get in my truck and drive it.. I figure if someone has worn plugs and wires. dirty air filter. dont take care if it like i do. IV seen people not change there oil for 20,000 miles just becasue no one has told them what to do about cars. Im just saying i did beat him. Maybe because his truck wasnt as good running shape as mine i dunno..

A Grandam GT has 200 hp, they are ok nothing great 15.9 in a 1/4mile. A GTP Grand prix is pretty quick but still with only 240hp they are quite heavy and still not a sports car they only run 15 flat.

my fiances 99 grand ma gt has 130k on it, and will pull away from me anytime anywhere but snow. a 15.9 is not fast. i have not even had my truck more than 85mph cause i dont need to prove anything at all. i have no clue what my truck runs in a quarter but id be confident its in the 17s. if i wanted a fast truck, it would have to be diesel of have a belt driven throttle body

But that's just a lack of traction. It is fun though.
