actaully a 5.0 might get simular millage to the 4cyl because of the power to weight diffrence... maybe close to 20ish....

but the power to weight is just so much better. and you can make it sound like a Mustang. go with the 5.0 or 351w

Must suck to have a 3.0 or a four banger. My 4.0 is kinda slow with 33's and 4.10's.

My old 79 f150 had a 300 straight six with 200k miles, 35's, and 4.10's could give my ranger a run for it's money....I guess it is a 4.9 though.

I dont know how the 4.9 I6's compared to the 5.0s, im assuming the V8 was more powerful (I think the F150 5.0L was rated at 185hp/285lb-ft), but a friend of mine used to have a 95 F150 reg cab long bed 5.0/auto, I beat it by a little less than half a car length, but that was before my intake and I did a big burnout off the line (accidently dumped the clutch) so I had to play catch up- but i did it.

yeah the 3.0s are def slow as hell. But oh well, you get used to it. Reguardless, the engine was one of the primary reasons why i am getting a new veichle, i am so very dissapointed by the fuel economy, power, and other warrenty work i've had to do on it. If i could do it all over i wouldnt even remotely consider the 3.0 (even if it saved me a few thousand)

Mine doesnt have anything special done to it other than I did the airbox mod and its not that slow. IT will beat my girlfriends 98 accord and my moms 03 stratus both of them are 4 bangers but their hp isnt much lower than mine not to forget they arent shaped like a brick.

I would only get a manual if i had a sports car/muscle car. Possibly if i had a 4.0 i would(but unlikely), but with So Cal traffic it would be completely retarded to have unless i had decent power.

A 4.0L Ranger isnt gonna be any supertruck either, Ive driven them, esp. in automatic form, the fun just wasnt there. Drive a stang GT and you'll think twice about that 4.0L being fast.. heh

Hey are you "boss3.0"? From RPS?

I have the 3.0, i guess mine is just really quick. It was rainy out yesterday and i was going 40 and gunned it headin down the highway and the truck just started burning out. I can usually never spin tires above about 20 mph on rainy days. Maybe I'm jus lucky? Exhaust and intake combo is all i have.

But still, even tho i have a 3.0, i'd rather replace than improve. Just speaking in money terms. Having a superfast 3.0 would be awesome haha.

Aaron

Bingo.

If I want fast, I take the sportbike. Now THAT is one fast 4-cylinder...

Very wise!!!! I can't believe how many people there are that buy a Ranger with a 3.0L, or 2.3L, and then expect performance mods to give them the
power/speed they want! They are just throwing their money away!!!

You are better off buying a vehicle that is already designed and built to be fast, then trying to add performance mods to one that isn't designed and built for it!!!

No fair! He's supercharged!!! lol

yeah, i didn't really buy my truck for the speed, but I still like to have it sound nice and powerful. Intake and exhaust do that. I do plan on buyin a bike though. Honda CBR600RR. Sooooo nice...

yes its slow.. get over bit :P

Did you regear?

Man my 3.slo and 33s are horrible. Its sooo slow.
I guess I notice the difference alot going from a v6 stick mustang to a ranger.

On a side note, I dont think people know what they are getting into when they buy the 3.0 vs the 4.0. To be honest, I didnt know and knowing what I know now, I would NEVER ever let anyone buy a 3.0. My brother wants a Ranger and I am trying to tell him to stay away from the 3.0 if he wants any power at all. No they arent build for racing or for power but Id like to have a lil more get up and go than I do now (and I felt the same before the lift and big tires, I just feel more strongly about it now )
