All 5 Fastener Locations for Power Steering Assembly Found!

The Haynes manual is very vague about how to remove the assembly in terms of the fasteners. Most Youtube videos and info around the Internet hint at there being 5 fasteners, but only show where 4 of the fasteners are. I found it because I am getting ready to lift my engine to get the oil pan out and need to get to the engine mounts. Posting this separately from my main repair thread so that the info isn't nested and it can help someone in the future.

Here are the easiest ones to get to. #2 and #3 are in the crevice under and behind the AC pulley. You have to feel around for them, but they are easy to get to. These 3 are fastened to the front of the cylinder head.

Fastener #4 is easy to get to from the engine bay and the driver side of the truck. There is a bolt holding a strut that connects to the EGR? (I'll confirm and update later as I reassemble my truck). Then there is a stud that comes out of here. This pic is taken from the driver side of the truck for reference. This is also fastened to the cylinder head. If working on the driver side cylinder head, fasteners #1-4 are the only ones that need to be removed to get the cylinder head out. Perhaps that is why there is not a mention of fastener #5 around the Internet.

Here is the hidden 5th sucker right here. This pic is taken from under the front bumper of truck. For reference, that is the lower radiator hose extending down through the bottom of the pic. If your nose is directly under the lower radiator hose where it connects to the engine, with the front of the truck being at the 12 o'clock position, the fastener would be roughly at the 4 o'clock position. I was able to remove this fastener from the driver side through the engine bay. There is a bolt that fastens down an electrical harness. Then there is the stud that fastens the power steering assembly to the lower engine.

Lastly, the Haynes manual is very vague about getting the assembly off. Hope that helps someone later down the line.

EDIT: If tackling this job, I would recommend going 4-5-3-2-1. Then during reassembly 1-2-3-5-4. Fastener #5 is the hardest one to get to during disassembly, but #4 is in the way. Get #4 out of the way then go for #5 on disassembly. #1-2-3 then bears the weight of the assembly to the cylinder heads can be removed last. On re-assembly, go #1-2-3 to fasten the assembly in place. Then #5 which is lower in the engine than #4. This is so you don't obstruct the ability to reach #5 upon reassembly by putting #4 in first.
