Louder? Yes.

Like a V8? No

 

There is nothing that will make a 3.0 sound like a v8. If you must put a muffler on it, go with a flowmaster or similar chambered muffler

 

its a 4 oh but you get the idea. these trucks will never sound like a v8 unless they have one under the hood.

Go on youtube. There are TONS of exhaust videos on there. Find something that suits your taste

 

Resonator tips help some. You will get a few pops and grumble type sounds when you rack em off or downshift. They sound pretty good on a 3.0. My buddy has some Monza tips on his 95 3.0 Splash.

disconnect exhaust completely and never put it in gear..? as long as you always idle youll sound like a V8

 

This. I went with a Flowmaster 40 series with dual 3" tips out the back. It doesn't give that v8 sound but sounds pretty good at WOT, not too raspy.

I live if FL as well and dont think you have anything to worry about. I just cut my exhaust off and am running open after the cat and IT SOUNDS HORRIBLE!!! My flowmaster 40 got delayed in the mail.
