a dealer wont take it off because it is a safety feature....

the only way to get it off is a tuner.....the one i would recommend is the XCalibrator 2 from SCT...

Me and a buddy used to be that way.About 25 years ago. When trucks could easily go 100.
We went out one night.
He in his truck.
I drove mine.

He beat me over the hill.

I stayed with him till he died .

Here in AZ the speed limit is 75. If you need to pass a group of people (even 2 cars) doing 65 you can easily hit the 92 limit. There isn't a more $hitty feeling than be next to someone passing and have the limiter kick in. I think a tuner is the only way.

Those of us that have been around for a while have bad high speed stories to tell and I bet in nearly every case more than the speed of the vehicle is involved.

Correct. A Ford dealer doesn't have the calibration tools to remove it.

Speeding is fun. I like trucks because going 90 down the highway feels like I am going really really fast. In my mom's mercedes 120 mph is smooth as heck compared to the ranger(which can't even reach that speed)

i've got the same problem with my ranger. i've been driving 60 miles round trip on fl's turnpike everyday for school, the past 4 years. and it even worse this year. i put in 4.56 and havent gotten the bigger tires yet. so the new limiter is at about 80ish. it SUCKS. back before the gears it was cool, cause with 31" tires, it was off set to about 105.

Ya I think Car and Driver mags said the 2003 Ranger was the slowest in the U.S.
lol O well!
I dont need to ever go over 92 but it sure is fun. But I will tell you my truck rides really really nice at 92. Its like riding on water.

Tuner. Xcalibrator2 best bet. California wont even let you take out the gov. because its a safety feature and you wont pass smog or some crap like that.

you get shakes at 85? Fastes my truck has hit was 125. my truck hits 110 daily and it handles like the shiz. lol my truck outhandles and feels more stable than any CAR ive driven. it's funny, cause going around a downhill corner at 90 in my truck with two dips at seperate poitns in the road feels safer and more stable in my truck than it does in my cousins lowered "Riced" Plymouth Breeze,(Same as Dodge Neon?) could be because its a dodge tho :P

That sucks alot. And i mean this in NO offense. But why would he SPEED over a blind hill? in my experience. if your going to go fast. you have to know what your doing. and a good idea of WHEN and WHERE is a MUST. I myself have been racing everythign i could get ahold of since i was 6 years olf. my Father used to run Trophy Truck Races in Laughlin. Its in my nature and blood. so a Limit. to me. isnt somethign id like to break, its always better to go slow till you learn than to push that limit and Learn the hard way.

As for D.'s comment. Ive had5 speeding tickets. 1 paid for. 1 Challenged and won. and 1 point left on my licsence lol. But to my point. i do notice my rear end get a lil floaty at higher speeds. kinda like it wants to fly or drift.

Yep, I don't see the reason to go high speeds like that anymore, just increases the risk of you and others getting really hurt.

After I got my xcal2 I had to test it on an empty straight road, got up to 105ish and felt like one little move would send me flying off the road.. now my car is different, anything above 100mph feels like 'normal' driving, it's wierd..not that I regularly go that fast though.

my 07' FX4 has never seen past 87mph....WHY? Because as far as GEICO's concerned, I'm a perfect driver and I really like my 38$ a month insurance. And umm ya...if you wanna go fast...get a coupe or something...regular old rangers aint made to go fast and even if it does 120ish...theres no handling what-so-ever! One wrong move (regardless of whether your mom has a GT, and your bro has a cobra...COBRA>RANGER) and your doing barrel rolls.

I'm only 17 and i don't have the "need for speed". Just last year my 16 year old friend was driving 3 of his friends home from work in his civic, the car edged off the road doin 98 and long story short, only one (a passenger) survived and he just started physical therapy a few months ago. My friend thought he knew how to drive and where to drive fast too, but you see how that turned out. I don't mean to "preach" to you neither, I just don't want to see anyone else end up like them.

Thank you for being the voice of reason... The speed limiters are raise so you can get accurate dyno runs data (since 6K in a 1:1 gear is at ~119MPH) but does not trump things like Law, common sense or the speed rating of your properly maintained tires.

i'm with D. i have gone pretty damn fast, and i was in cars that were a **** load more capable and actually designed to do it! and it was still pretty scary when you hit the smallest bump, i couldn't imagine a ranger..

idk if you said it.. but how old are you?
just because your mom has an 07 GT doesn't mean she's a good driver, or does drive fast. Maybe she is i dont know.. but i dont care if you are a good driver, as far as i know your ranger is pretty damn stock. good driver or not you dont need to be going very fast, go buy a MUSTANG GT, or RX-8 or camaro or viper, vette, t/a, i know not all of them are designed to go THAT fast but all of them are 100x better than a ranger if your a speed freak.
