high rev low acceleration problem
I have a 2001 ford ranger stepside. 3.0L V6. Whenever I am driving and I hit the accelerator a little it doesn't accelerate but when I push all the way down on the pedal it revs up to around 4-5k rpms but still doesn't really accelerate. Any ideas why this happens? It is an automatic as well

Welcome to the forum
Your transmission needs to be rebuilt, it is slipping, either from low pressure or worn out clutches and bands(brakes).
But you are burning the ATF by doing what you are doing, pull dip stick and smell the fluid
Is Reverse OK?
Does it engage instantly or is there a delay, and/or do you have to raise RPM to get it to engage?
Reverse requires the highest internal pressure so problems with Reverse are first sign of lower than normal pressure.
