reverse while in drive

Basically, i was on my way home, and the low fuel light came on. So what I usually do when this happens is I put my truck in neutral and then turn it off and back on then the light goes off.The reason I do this, is because,I have to go down this steep hill and when I do,the low fuel light comes on, even though I have about a quarter tank most of the time. But anyway today, I accidentally put it in reverse while I was in drive .I don’t think it damaged the transmission any, But my truck jerked when It went into reverse. I don’t think it went into the reverse gear all the way but, I don’t know, I was in reverse for about 2 seconds or so then, I put it back into neutral then drive. When I got home I put it in reverse and everything seems okay.

what do you guys think. Is my trans okay or not

i have a 2001 Ford ranger edge 4.0 4x4

it has 180,000 miles on it

its an automatic

Welcome to the forum

Transmission is fine.

But I am curious as to why you would care if "low fuel light" is on until you get to where you are going and shut off the truck on level ground, so it resets?

I wait until I’m at the bottom of the hill to turn it off and on, because it’s level at the bottom. probably should wait until I come to a stop to reset it.

But why do that at all?
Why not just wait until you get where you are going?

Well you do have a point there.

idk, I guess where I’ve done it for so long,it’s became a habit I guess. I’ve never really thought about it.

Seems like a really dumb thing to do over a light being on. Risk vs reward and all...
