I get around 18.0 to about 19.5 mpg or 270 - 280 miles out of my 01 V6 Ranger with the 5 speed auto.

As far as Roach2004's post goes, I'd be curious to know how many stop lights you are hitting plus you have an auto which gives you crappier mileage. there are other threads for auto tranny's I think...just do a simple search for it. best of luck improving your mileage

I feel sorry for everyone with the little tank. I love the 19 gallon one. Nothing like 450+ cruising mileage.

I've been getting just over 300 out of my 2004 3.0.

Where do you get a larger gas tank?

different engines / options had different tanks. I don't remember how it goes. I think xl and xlt's have the 16's and then better packages got 19's and then I think there is also a 20/21.

and I don't care about not having an extra 3-5 gallons, that's just a bigger hit to the wallet at one time and more dead weight you're carrying around. Of course I'd expect everyone to have their own opinion about that. haha.

I've never been able to figure that out. I have a 2000 XLT with a 3.0 and I have the "big" 19.5-19.7 tank or whatever. Never heard of a 20+ tank. I just think people round up the 19.5 tank to 20.

yeah, no clue. I don't really see people topping it off with 3/4's of a gallon tho. I'd say it's a 20 gallon tank unless you're down to fumes with the "check guage" light on? oh well, doesn't really matter. that's like my truck having cruise and tilt wheel but manual locks and windows? it's all about the options I guess...

yeah, 300 is pretty much the goal in mind but with all city driving I've seen it go down to 250 ish but it just depends. 350 was awesome

If I burn my entire 19.5 gallon tank at 66-67 real world mph i can go about 290 miles according to the odo, which is ~14% less than what it really is, due to the tires and uncalibrated speedo/odo. The 58mph that the speedo says is actually 66-67, 14% higher (I have gps). So actual miles driven, all highway at that speed, is about 330, or 14% higher than the 290 the odometer reads. 17 mpg.

Add any city driving to that and the number goes way down. All city I get about 12 driving nicely.

Its impossible for me to accurately calculate actual miles driven on a tank in the city, due to the constant speed changes. (the faster you go the more inaccurate the speedo is)

EDIT - I have no idea why I just posted this in the 3.0 forum.

Made the jump to a lift and 33” w/ 4.10 gears dropped to approx 200 miles per tank.
The change to 33s made a big difference.
Now thinking about re-gearing.
