After parking the truck in the garage for 2 days, i came out to a WET puddle the size of a steering wheel, over a quart.
I cleaned the pan and after pouring the 3rd quart in, noticed the oil bleeding through the pan about 2-3 inches above the drain plug, so i have a nice hole in the pan.

after 5 minutes, i had leaked a baseball size puddle already.
how much do you have to lift the motor/tranny to remove the pan? 6 inches? 2 feet?

after a day, i will be losing 2 quarts easily.

thank god this is vehicle is basically parked til winter.

 

really?!?! you can't lift just a couple of inches like the gen 4? Is it because of the I-beams or what?

 

so either i pay someone 8-10+ hours labor to change it or i sell truck.

i can't drive it like it is.

 

I have heard that you can use POR-15 Patch kit or Seal All and they both will stand up to the heat and oil. This isnt the right way to fix it, and may not work well, but you could try it. Maby seach google for ways to patch the pan.

 

Seal-All will only take the heat for a short amount of time .JB Weld would be better.

 

yup, a couple guys at work here suggested i sand around the leak, then apply jbweld on and around it.

yea the patching would only be temporary fix, it would start leaking again at some point because of the repair failing or rust making new holes. You could patch it and hope it holds until you got the money to fix it or just sell the truck like said above.

 

I didn't have to take the engine out my 96 when I replaced my oil pan seal. I did have the tranmission off but I barely lifted it off the top of the bolts. I had space to wiggle it out just fine. Wasn't that hard to lift the engine either.

 

buy some JB_weld and slap it on there...ive done on my quads for years and on my last toyota i owned. its not to expensive and work extremely well. good luck!!!!

Yeah get an engine hoist and just pick it up. Take two nuts off and see what you can do.
