So what should have been done is for you to have done nothing and return the block (at their expense) for improper installation of the cam plug.
And then you would also have to prove to them that it was their error; which should not have been too difficult given the pictures.

What a bunch of BS !

If it was me I would be thinking of small claims court to recoup some or all of my labour to fix their screw up.
I've been to small claims court here in Canada before, it's pretty informal, it's done privately before judge with both parties present.
Despite what it says in the warranty, the judge has the power to over turn things like that if he deems unfair to the consumer, he may find things in your favour.
It can be a bit of a gamble, here in Canada it costs a hundred bucks, the other guys are forced to pay the same 100 bucks and if they don't, they are assumed negligent or are held responsible for their mistake.
