P1309 Code after New Camshaft Sync Installed

Recently I installed a new camshaft position sensor and synchronizer in a 2001 ford ranger 3.0 v6. I am now showing a p1309 check engine code. I am almost positive that the synchronizer was installed correctly. Is there a simple way to reset the synchro if needed?

Welcome to the forum

Why did you change Cam synchro?

You should post the code definition you are using when posting a code, no one has then all memorized, lol, and we can also see if you are using the CORRECT definition

P1309 Misfire Detection Monitor not enabled

This code can mean you have installed Cam sensor out of time with Crank sensor(main timing sensor), or engine is running too rough to ID which cylinders are misfiring

Assuming this code came AFTER the cam synchro install then most likely its out of time

Synchro is installed with crank shaft at TDC but at TDC #1 compression stroke, there is also a TDC #5 compression stroke, they share the same 0deg mark on crank pulley
So cam sensor may be 180deg off

You can retime or try lifting cam synchro up, rotating it 180deg(1/2 turn) and lowering back down, then button up and see if code comes back

Thank you for the response. We changed the sensor and the synchro because we were getting a p3040(Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction) code. The P1309 (Misfire Detection Monitor not enabled) code came after we completed the install. We probably are a bit off on the installation.

Yes, that would be my guess as well
