Please help, 2.9 wont stay running
I have an 86 ford ranger 2wd 2.9l v6 with the tk5 tranny.
please read
It will start cold and fast idle really well. Sometimes goes into its normal idle stage too. But after running for 5 to 15 min it starts to stall slowly, like it sounds like it's misfireing on all cylinders then it sounds like it runs on 3 random cylinders then stalls out and dies, it has new vacuum lines and ive replaced. Plugs, wires, IAC valve, and so on. Ive adjusted the timeing. (Unplugging spout connector and everything) I'm just lost because Idk what I should check next. Just looking for a list of stuff I should check. Thanks!

The TFI module would be next on the list, they all had a common issue of rough running and no starts after they get warmed up
Does the engine restart and run fine after the rough running?
Or do you have to wait for it to cool down a bit?
TFI diagnostics here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...agnostic.shtml
There were TWO color modules, Black and Grey, they use different wiring so if you get a replacement make sure its the correct one, 1986 Ranger 2.9l should be a Grey model

It has a hard time running after it starts running bad. Sometimes wont start at all. And yes I have to wait for it to cool all the way down before I can start it again. I'll see if I can find the tfi after I'm off tonight! Thanks ron!
