Suggestions on Exhaust

So, I have a 99 off road model, and summer is coming quick and would really like to put an exhaust on it. I have been looking and asking, but no one really has said anything that really helps. I was looking at getting a full system, but could just do the muffler and add the piping. Any help would be great, thanks!

Muffler and piping will just give you sound. A full system will give you power along with good sound. You will pay more money for the full system but I think its worth it.

What system would you sugest then, I do not mind paying extra money, its the only project I am doing this summer. I have found magnaflow for about 566, and gibson which was about 388 I believe. The magna comers straight out the back, while the gibson bends behind the rear tires, any preference from you guys on that or do they perform different? I read the other guys forums, and a lot of people were saying flowmaster? thanks for the help so far.

It all depends on your preference. Hit up youtube for some sounds clips, then go from there.

I like my Magnaflow. I have heard a Gibson on a Ranger and it sounded good as well.

K thanks guys this is the stuff I needed to actually help, I was looking at the gibson, I wanted a duel exhaust, but they only have the ones that do the bend behind the rear tires. That does not look bad though with the duel outlet on one side. Thanks, I will do some more thinking, and if anyone else has anyting to say thanks in advance

I think we might have the same truck. This is a complete exhaust system.

His is a 4.0l though right. So his is going to sound deeper no matter what, any thoughts on that magnaflow.

Gibson is cheap, sounds good, has minimal cab drone, and their mufflers are an open flow design (no labryth of baffles). They aren't really that loud...but I personally dont like drawing attention to myself. A red truck with Troy Lee decals is enough.

This is what my muffler looks like. It's offset so you cant see through it but you could drop a paper ball through it and it'd fall right out.

I heard a 3.0 with a magnaflow and it sounded great. I believe he used 3inch pipe to the muffler, and 3.5 out. Then he side piped it into a dual tip. Almost as loud as mine! LOL

3" is wayy too much pipe for a 3.0. the stock front pipes are 2". 2.25 is about as large as you need

I second that point, dont go to big or it will not only sound like hell but you will lose a lot of backpressure

If I am correct, like you said I would lose back pressure, the magnaflow I have posted is a 2.5 pipe, which seems like a good size, if I went any bigger then that I should put a nice turbo on the old ranger. K thanks for the input guys I think I am going to get that magnaflow, so I get performance as well as some noise. Thanks everyone.

Back pressure is always a bad thing. FYI

But that doesn't mean bigger = better, either.
