Timing

Hello,

my truck recently didn’t pass smog due to a timing issue. Can someone please tell me what the timing is supposed to be at for a 2.9l v6?

also would a stuck injector cause the truck to burn rich?

thanks
greatly appreciated
josh

You need to pull the SPOUT Connector to time the 2.9l engine
10deg BTDC is spec for that engine

A leaking injector will for sure cause engine to run Rich
A stuck close injector, maybe, the computer needs to open the other 5 injectors longer to compensate for the loss of fuel from the stuck injector, so technically thats Richer, but only in Code setting not in actual running

Never heard of a smog test for spark timing????

Thank you for getting back to me.

they failed the smog test because it is burning rich as well as the timing issue.

I will try disconnecting the spout connector and timing it again.

thank you

2.9l has a Fuel Pressure Regulator(FPR) on the engine, looks like a small can and has one of the two Fuel Hoses attached to it
FPR also has a Vacuum hose attached, pull that hose off and check it for gasoline
Leaking FPR will allow fuel to be sucked into the engine via that vacuum hose
If gasoline is found in that vacuum hose replace FPR
