My father in law has a 2000 Mazda with the 3.0L. The truck has relatively low miles, less than 50K. Over the weekend he washed the engine off at the car wash. Immediately afterward, the truck started running rough and was misfiring. He got the truck home, and blew out the plugs and coils and many other connectors. The truck now seems to be firing on all cylinders, but the transmission is starting in 2nd gear and has no overdrive. It will not idle, you have to gas the truck to keep it running. It is also running very lean. No check engine lights at all.

Any thoughts? This is his only vehicle at the moment, they hit a deer Friday in their car. Everything goes wrong at once! Any help appreciated!

 

my guess, you blew the PCM with water. he probably blasted it to kingdom come and fired it up right away. unless you have a tech 2 scanner, take it to a shop with one and let them diag it. These problems wont be fixed with some tlc in the home garage.

id start by taking out the most likely soaked air filter, unplug the battery and let it sit for at least 24 hrs no power, and let everything dry out for a while. if your lucky the PCM is only wet and not fried. give it a sniff and tell us what you smell. if you smell anything from it, shes a goner.

 

I am wiling to bet you blew a vac hose off. I have pressure washed every engine on every car we have owned and have had no problems out of any of them.
